Restaurant features
A pizzeria located on the eastern slope of Iwahara Ski Resort in Echigo Yuzawa.
In the winter, it’s a ski resort, but even in the summer, the refreshing scenery alone can cleanse your soul.
The interior of the restaurant has a lodge-style ambiance.
The European touches, right down to the details and decorations, create a pleasant atmosphere.
Although I’m not typically fond of restaurants in resort areas, I wanted to approach the food with an open mind and ordered several items a la carte that piqued my interest.
Pierre Zero
Since I was traveling by car, I opted for non-alcoholic drinks.
They had a sparkling rosé, as expected.
White Peach and Prosciutto Caprese
A Caprese salad with seasonal white peaches.
To enhance the fruity taste, they used fewer basil leaves and added a touch of honey.
Green Salad
A salad with summer vegetables.
They must have used produce from nearby farmers because the freshness of the vegetables was truly appreciated.
Pizza (Half & Half)
When I visit a pizzeria for the first time, I usually go for a classic Margherita pizza. However, I succumbed to the temptations of summer and went for a half & half option.
One half had “Bacon and Fresh Corn” featuring seasonal corn.
The other half was the classic “Margherita Bufala” with buffalo cheese.
This pizzeria is truly one of the best among pizza places.
You could call me a purist or say that I’m heavily influenced by Western Europe, but for me, a good pizzeria needs to meet certain criteria.
Of course, the quality of the pizza itself is crucial, but it’s equally important that the side dishes are delicious and truly representative of Italian cuisine.
Space constraints might play a role, but many “renowned pizzerias” in cities tend to offer only individual pizzas.
In other words, opportunities to encounter a “renowned pizzeria” are not that common. In that sense, this place is undoubtedly one of those “renowned pizzerias.
